Antenatal classes

 

First Stage of Labour

We will talk about what the first stage of labour is and other things such as how to know when labour is starting what to expect, what might happen at the hospital including monitoring and progress and what pain relief is available both natural and hospital drugs.

 

Second and Third Stages of Labour

We will explain what the second stage of labour is and discuss things including what to expect, positions, what might happen if you need help pushing your baby out. We will also talk about the third stage of labour when your placenta (afterbirth) is delivered, and how this might be managed. We will also talk about what options you have regarding cutting your baby's cord.

 

Infant Feeding

This session is split, first we talk about Skin-to-skin contact then we discuss the basics of breastfeeding including the benefits, supply and demand and getting your baby to feed. Finally we discuss formula feeding including what the current guidelines are.

 

Complications of Birth and Early Parenting

We will discuss Induction of labour. We then talk about some complications of birth that you may want to ask your midwife about. During this session we also cover early parenting including how to settle your baby, change nappies, hold your baby and bath your baby.
